RFK Jr. fat-shames Governor Morrisey, asking the crowd if he should commit to monthly weigh-ins

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made fat-shaming jokes about West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey during a public event on Friday.

Morrisey joined Kennedy to talk about West Virginia’s role in the Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” initiative. While speaking, Kennedy made several fat jokes aimed at Morrisey, even suggesting that the governor take part in public monthly weigh-ins.

“I said to Governor Morrisey the first time I saw him, I said, ‘You look like you ate Governor Morrisey,'” Kennedy said, making the audience laugh.

Kennedy also joked about becoming Morrisey’s “personal trainer” and putting him on a strict carnivore diet. He even asked the crowd if Morrisey should commit to a public weigh-in each month, saying that if the governor lost 30 pounds, he would return to West Virginia to celebrate and weigh in with him.

Morrisey responded with humor, saying Kennedy’s proposal was “a little more than I bargained for.”

While the jokes were about fat-shaming, the event mainly focused on West Virginia’s new health initiatives. These include banning certain food dyes in school lunches, expanding work requirements for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, and restricting SNAP to prevent soda purchases.

West Virginia has the highest obesity rate in the country and the second-lowest life expectancy.

Neither Kennedy nor Morrisey has commented further on the exchange.
