“I’ve only got 30 days”: Pro-Trump Cuban rapper is being deported by ICE—now he’s pleading with fans to support him

Cuban rapper El Funky, known for his outspoken support of President Donald Trump, is now facing possible deportation after living in the United States for the past four years.

As reported by Politico, the artist—whose real name is Eliéxer Márquez Duany—recently had his residency request denied under the Cuban Adjustment Act of 1966. An amendment made during the Obama administration in 2017 eliminated the automatic legal path for Cubans who arrived without a visa, putting El Funky’s stay in jeopardy. Now, he’s been given just thirty days to leave the U.S. or risk deportation back to Cuba, where he could face prison time.

Earlier this month, the rapper took to Instagram to make a desperate plea for help following the decision.

“I have 30 days to leave the country or I will be deported,” reads the caption, translated from Spanish to English. “I ask all my Cuban brothers and sisters who know of my anti-communist history and the members of Congress of this country, who need your support more than ever. 🇨🇺”

El Funky, who gained international recognition through the powerful protest song “Patria y Vida”—a collaboration with Yotuel, Gente de Zona, Decemer Bueno, and Maykel Osorbo—left Cuba to settle in Miami. Despite once receiving praise and support from Cuban-American political figures like Senators Marco Rubio and Mario Díaz-Balart, neither has publicly spoken up for him in light of his deportation order.

Still, El Funky’s allegiance to Trump remains unchanged, even though he is not a U.S. citizen and therefore cannot vote.

Florida Representative María Elvira Salazar has emerged as his only advocate in Congress so far, referring to the rapper as a “political refugee who deserves the full protection of U.S. immigration law.”

“We are working with the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) to ensure they understand the serious risk of torture and political persecution he faces if returned to Cuba,” she said in a statement to Politico.

El Funky made his stance clear when speaking with Baller Alert, emphasizing that returning to Cuba could put his life in immediate danger.

“I’m not going to shut up,” he said. “Going back puts my life in danger.”
