Republican Senator Torches Trump for ‘Embracing Putin’ and Betraying U.S. Allies: ‘Sick to my Stomach

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski from Alaska delivered a sharp rebuke of President Donald Trump following a tense meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this week. The meeting, which aired live in the U.S., exposed a dramatic shift in U.S. foreign policy—one that left Murkowski deeply disturbed.

Murkowski criticized the administration for failing to acknowledge Russia’s responsibility for the war in Ukraine and warned that the U.S. could be stepping away from its commitment to supporting Ukraine.

“This week started with administration officials refusing to acknowledge that Russia started the war in Ukraine. It ends with a tense, shocking conversation in the Oval Office and whispers from the White House that they may try to end all U.S. support for Ukraine,” she wrote on X, the social media platform.

She further stated: “I know foreign policy is not for the faint of heart, but right now, I am sick to my stomach as the administration appears to be walking away from our allies and embracing Putin, a threat to democracy and U.S. values around the world.”

Her remarks, especially coming from a Republican, resonated strongly and highlighted the growing alarm among international leaders. Many view this shift as a dangerous break from long-held American values—particularly its commitment to defending democracy across the globe.

Trump and Vance confront Zelensky, dismiss his concerns

During the Oval Office meeting, Trump and Vice President Vance confronted Zelensky, accusing him of lacking gratitude for U.S. security aid, despite Zelensky publicly expressing appreciation just weeks prior. In early February, Zelensky had posted on X, thanking the administration for its continued support of peace efforts in Eastern Europe.

In recent weeks, Trump has repeatedly sidelined Zelensky from peace negotiations, claiming the Ukrainian president “has no cards” while offering no substantial solutions to bring the war to an end. After the contentious Oval Office meeting, the administration escalated tensions further, suggesting that Ukraine should consider a new leader to manage the conflict—an unprecedented and direct affront to the democratically elected head of a U.S. ally.

U.S. shocks the world with UN vote against Ukraine

Adding to the controversy, the U.S. took an unexpected and alarming step by voting against a United Nations resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This decision sent shockwaves globally, signaling a growing rift between America and its traditional allies while aligning the U.S. closer to Russia, Belarus, and North Korea—nations that also opposed the resolution.

Murkowski’s warning: A critical moment for U.S. leadership

Murkowski’s outrage is more than just political rhetoric—it’s a stark warning. The erosion of America’s leadership on the global stage is accelerating, and the consequences of aligning with Putin’s Russia while turning away from Ukraine are more perilous than ever.
