‘This is not what we voted for’ — Latinas for Trump founder outraged by ICE’s inhumane arrests

Florida state Senator Ileana Garcia, known for co-founding the political group Latinas for Trump, publicly condemned former President Donald Trump’s recent immigration enforcement measures, calling them “unacceptable and inhumane” in a recent social media post.

Her criticism follows a wave of arrests by federal immigration agents inside courthouses across the country, including in Florida. According to NBC News, these arrests have raised serious concerns over due process violations. Immigration judges have reportedly dismissed active cases in some instances, which advocates claim could be accelerating deportations and bypassing legal protections for migrants.

The Trump administration’s aggressive immigration crackdown has also sparked outrage and protests in cities like Los Angeles, where demonstrators reportedly threw large chunks of concrete at law enforcement, slashed vehicle tires, and vandalized public property, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

On June 7, Trump authorized the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, a move made despite opposition from California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

“I understand the importance of deporting criminal aliens,” Garcia posted on June 7. “But what we are witnessing are arbitrary measures to hunt down people who are complying with their immigration hearings – in many cases, with credible fear of persecution claims – all driven by a Miller-like desire to satisfy a self-fabricated deportation goal,” she added, referencing former White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. “This undermines the sense of fairness and justice that the American people value.”

Garcia’s remarks align with those of fellow Florida Republican Rep. María Elvira Salazar, who also voiced opposition to Trump’s latest immigration tactics.

“I remain clear in my position: anyone with a pending asylum case, status-adjustment petition, or similar claim deserves to go through the legal process.” Salazar said in a June 6 statement.

Salazar noted she intends to meet with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in the coming days, alongside Florida Republican Reps. Mario Díaz-Balart and Carlos Giménez, to “personally explain the dire situation unfolding in South Florida.”
