‘No Kings’ Protest Set to Be the Biggest Uprising Since Trump Took Power — and It’s Just Getting Started

The “No Kings” protest movement targeting President Donald Trump and his administration is shaping up to be the largest nationwide demonstration since his return to office, organizers say.
An estimated 1,800 protest events have been scheduled across the country for June 14, and millions are expected to participate.
These protests are timed to take place on Trump’s birthday, which also coincides with the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army—a milestone the administration plans to mark with a large-scale military parade featuring tanks rolling through the streets of Washington, D.C.
Since Trump was re-elected in January, the country has seen a resurgence in mass protests, including the “Hands Off” rallies and ongoing Tesla Takedown demonstrations. But this weekend’s events are anticipated to be the most extensive public resistance since Trump’s inauguration. Organizers believe the anticipated turnout may reflect growing national discontent with his policies, particularly following his decision to send National Guard troops to Los Angeles in response to recent immigration-related demonstrations.
Organizers behind the No Kings effort say the protests are meant to push back against what they describe as “authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarization of our democracy.”
According to a press release dated May 6 from the nonprofit Indivisible, the “NO KINGS Nationwide Day of Defiance on Flag Day” is being coordinated by a coalition of pro-democracy partner groups, including 50501 (which stands for 50 protests in 50 states—one movement) along with other experienced organizers behind past mobilizations.
“All No Kings events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety. Organizers are trained in de-escalation and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide,” the protest network said in a public statement.
Simultaneously, a full military parade will unfold in Washington, D.C., with participation from 6,700 troops, 28 tanks, and 50 military aircraft. The event celebrates the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday, which also happens to fall on Trump’s 79th birthday. While Trump had previously advocated for a similar spectacle during his first term—after being inspired by France’s Bastille Day celebration—it remains unclear if this parade was personally ordered by him, though it has come together on short notice.
The price tag for the parade is expected to reach $45 million in taxpayer dollars, including $16 million allocated for repairs to D.C. roadways, which are not equipped to support the weight of heavy tanks. Trump has warned protesters planning to disrupt the parade that they “will be met with heavy force.”

Earlier this month, on June 6, Trump deployed 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles following escalating protests triggered by multiple Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids. These anti-ICE protests have since spread beyond the city to other parts of the country.
The No Kings protest network issued the following statement via its official website: “On June 14—Flag Day—President Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle meant to look like strength. But real power isn’t staged in Washington. It rises up everywhere else.
‘No Kings is a nationwide day of defiance. From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism—and show the world what democracy really looks like. We’re not gathering to feed his ego. We’re building a movement that leaves him behind.’”
Meanwhile, President Trump shared a video message on Truth Social on June 5, saying: “We’re honoring the 250th anniversary of the greatest fighting force in history, the United States Army. We will celebrate a spectacular military parade in Washington, D.C., like no other.
‘For two and a half centuries, the men and women of America’s army have dominated our enemies and protected our freedom at home. This parade salutes our soldiers’ remarkable strength and unbeatable spirit. You won’t want to miss it! Just don’t miss this one. It’s gonna be good.’”
As the weekend approaches, turnout for the protests is expected to surge into the millions. On the subject of expanding the National Guard presence, the president has indicated he may consider deploying troops to other cities experiencing similar protests.
