Trump says new relief bill should only help Republican states: “We don’t want to benefit Democrat governors”

Former President Donald Trump voiced his stance this week on Capitol Hill, emphasizing that his proposed Republican budget legislation should prioritize GOP-led states rather than extending aid to those governed by Democrats.

“We’re going to make a couple of tweaks,” Trump said of his “one big beautiful bill” during his visit. “I mean, we don’t want to benefit Democrat governors, although I would do that if it made it better, but they don’t know what they’re doing.”

Trump did clarify that his goal is to assist the nation as a whole, but made a clear distinction when it came to state leadership. “We want to help all the states, but we have governors that are from the Democrat [sic] party, let’s say New York, Illinois, big ones, and let’s say Gavin ‘Newscum,’ who’s done a horrible job in California.”

His remarks signal a continued divide in Washington, with partisan politics at the core of the debate over future federal spending. While outlining his plans, Trump leaned heavily into his usual rhetoric, highlighting loyalty to Republicans as a guiding principle.

“We want to benefit Republicans. They are the ones that are going to make America great again,” he added. “The Democrats are destroying our country.”
